A TRAFFIC SIGNAL CONTROL METHOD OF TRAFFIC CONGESTION BY AREA DIVISION

Urban traffic congestion does not occur in isolation at a single congested intersection. Traffic conditions at other intersections in the surrounding network also contribute to the effect. To alleviate problems at a congested intersection, it is not sufficient to adjust the control parameters at this intersection alone. The road network surrounding the congested intersection needs to be treated as a whole. In this paper, a control algorithm which addresses this issue is proposed. To set control parameters for each intersection in the surrounding network, both its detector information and its relationship with the congested intersection are considered. By treating the network of intersections as a group in this way, congestion at the problem intersection can be alleviated. (a) For the covering entry of this conference, see IRRD abstract 868345.
