THE EFFECT OF CAR MASS ON INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL SAFETY
MASSAN VAIKUTUS AUTON SISAISEEN JA ULKOISEEN TURVALLISUUTEEN
Car mass is an important factor affecting collision safety, although there are differences in safety between car models in the same mass category. The objective of this study was to determine injury risks as a function of mass of both cars in collision. These risks were used to describe the empirical connections, independent of car model, which car mass and the consequences of accidents. The risk rates were also utilized to estimate roughly the effect that homogenization of the Finnish passenger car fleet have on safety. Partly the findings in this study confirm the outcomes presented before, but they also exhibit some brand new viewpoints.
