NESTED LOGIT MODEL AND SAMPLE ENUMERATION IN TRAVEL DEMAND FORECASTING

STRUKTUROITU LOGITTIMALLI JA OTOSNUMERAATIO LIIKENNE-ENNUSTEISSA

Multinomial logit model (MNL) is a discrete choice model. Due to assumptions of the model the alternativies in the model should be uncorrelated. The nested logit model (NL) is a generalisation of the multinomial logit model which handles the correlation problem, at the expense of more complex calibration and use. In the literature part of the study the theory of the nested logit model and its use in transportation plannig are described. A procedure for the estimation of the nested logit models is presented, employing the maximum likelihood criterion.
