TOWARDS THE DEVELOPMENT OF A UNIVERSAL MULTI-MODAL ADVANCED TRAVELER INFORMATION SYSTEM

This paper describes the development and major components of the Multi-modal Advanced Traveler Information System (MATIS). The principal concept behind MATIS was to develop a traveler information system from which travelers had the ability to choose various modes of transportation from a user friendly platform. Users can select from three modes of transportation: transit, private automobile, and ridesharing. MATIS was developed using the ARC/INFO Geographic Information System (GIS) software. The primary components of MATIS are the MATIS databases, data processing algorithms, and user interface. This paper describes the components in detail.
