THE ROAD AHEAD FOR EV BATTERIES
An expert panel has concluded that new high-energy, high-power batteries for electric vehicles could be in commercial production within five years. Such batteries are expected to provide realistic vehicle driving ranges exceeding 100 miles and acceleration matching that of all but high-powered internal combustion automobiles. The panel's assessment of the performance and availability of advanced EV batteries was chartered by the California Air Resources Board to support its reexamination of a precedent-setting regulation requiring the sale of zero-emission vehicles beginning in 1998.
