CHIP SEAL USE -- BACK TO THE BASICS

Chip seals are one of the treatments that help prevent premature aging of roadways. A chip-seal is an application of emulsified asphalt followed by an application of aggregate (to impart skid-resistance to the road). Chip-seal treatments are known by many different names, and each one is slightly different in its construction: Sand seal; Chip seal; Sandwich seal; and Cape seal. Other topics discussed include aggregates, equipment, and asphalt emulsions.
