TICKETLESS TRAVEL ON THE CARDS
By the end of March 1996, officials at the Air Transport Association of America (ATA) will have developed a standard format for chip-cards, which will allow passengers to interline between carriers, without tickets. U.S. carriers pioneered ticketless travel on shuttle services. This allows the same "smart card" or "chip-card" -- which contains flight information in an electronic format -- to be used by several different carriers on domestic routes and marks the first step on the road to global ticketless international travel.
