TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE FOR COMPETITIVE SUCCESS
Looking to 21st-century infrastructure needs, the U.S. Department of Transportation is directing considerable effort and resources to creating new and more efficient intermodal links. The authors's working thesis is that it is a national imperative to build upon these intermodal initiatives and develop new types of multimodal transportation infrastructure that will help American industries compete and win in the decades ahead. In the latter half of this article, the author describes one such prototype infrastructure, known as Global TransPark, being designed and developed in North Carolina for this purpose.
