A WIDE AREA COVERED CONTROL SYSTEM FOR HIGHWAY EQUIPMENT

To efficiently control the operation of highway equipment, Japan Highway Public Corporation (JH) has developed and applied a new wide area covered control system to Tokyo third administration bureau. The control system consolidates old control operations and has a correspondence support function, an intelligence function for the judgment of interlocking operation in a local substation, statistic functions, and analytic functions, etc. Consequently, highway equipment operates efficiently and reliably for the road user who travels the expressway. The equipment control system allows administrators to control and operate various and many equipment with few operators. It reduces the operation of control by introducing the processing of judgment by the program, etc. The control system for highway equipment has been operating efficiently for 2 years. It permits operation of equipment in optimal conditions with minimum cost. JH plans to build and operate this equipment control system in five or more other bureaus. Also, plans exist to widely apply the system with expansion of Japan's expressway network. This system will become a standard of control systems for road equipment. The aim is to introduce additional advanced functions and to improve efficiency of the control system.
