PIPELINE TO JAPAN--FIVE YEARS OF HISTORY ON AN LNG SHIPPING OPERATION

Paper deals with all aspects of the operation of LNG ships, including changes in original design, unusual problems and conditions, cargo handling and containment, cargo measurement, automatic safety equipment, fire protection system, ballast water systems, navigation systems, use of cargo boil-off as fuel, ship handling and mooring, economics, maintenance and repair, crew training, routing, round trip times and special port conditions. The paper deals specifically with experience gained in the operation of two LNG tankers, the S/S "Polar Alaska" and S/S "Arctic Tokyo," each of 71,400 cubic cargo capacity.
