RESURFACING OF MILITARY AIRFIELD

The article describes resurfacing operations carried out on a fully operational military airfield. Resurfacing was made necessary by cracking and settlement of the slabs which created a flying hazard. Repair work was confined to the main runway and included the provision of a bituminous overlay 2100M long and a concrete overlay for 61M at either end. Details are given of bituminous and concrete materials, construction plant and methods used in the operation. /TRRL/
