TRANSPORT STRATEGY FOR LONDON. THE SECOND IN A SERIES ABOUT GOVERNMENT ACTION IN LONDON

This strategy has been developed as a response to the 1995 London Pride Partnership publication - " London's Action Programme for Transport: 1995-2010". The document sets the transport issues their London context. The policies and initiatives that are proposed or in hand are outlined. Changes in the economy and demography of London are reviewed and forecasts are made on how they might be expected to change over the next decade. The quality of the international transport links and the public transport links to the central business districts are examined. Priorities in the transport investment programme are identified and the importance of regeneration is emphasised. The impact of transport on London's environment, particularly in relation to air pollution, noise and land-take is considered. Global issues such as climatic change are discussed. Considerations of safety, personal mobility and the freedom of choice are touched on.
