EXPERIMENTAL DETERMINATION OF THE MODULUS OF ELASTICITY OF PAVEMENTS

DETERMINAZIONE SQERIMENTALE DEL MODULO DI ELASTICTA DELLE SOVRASTRUTTURE STRADALI

Pavement design methods can be essentially divided into two groups: (A) methods aimed at determining the total pavement thickness in terms of design loads and their distribution, and of the characteristics of the subgrade soils; and (B) methods such as those of Brumister, Mac Leod, Quaranta and Biroulia, which, by analysis of the separate layers in terms of the properties of the materials, determine the thickness of the separate layers, or the total pavement thickness. This article deals with the second group and shows that the Biroulia method seems to have achieved the closest correlation between theoretic and practical results. /TRRL/
