IOWA SEAT BELT USAGE SURVEY

This survey of seat belt usage in Iowa used a sample of 100 sites which were randomly selected based on population, geographical location, and statewide vehicle miles traveled by road type. Observations were conducted by the Iowa State Patrol. The survey was conducted Monday through Friday between 6 a.m and 6 p.m. Observations were made for one hour at each site. Results indicate that 77% of adult drivers continue to be the largest group to buckle up. Passengers and children remain unrestrained in some vehicles. Passengers observed in the front seat were only buckled 27% of the time.
