SOURCES FOR DATA ON MOBILITY. A STUDY INTO CONSISTENT HISTORICAL SERIES
DE BRONNEN VOOR MOBILITEITSGEGEVENS. EEN ONDERZOEK NAAR CONSISTENTE HISTORISCHE REEKSEN
For the purpose of research into the development of road hazard in the Netherlands, there is a need to have available historical figures concerning both hazard and the exposure levels. The most important quantities of these levels are: (1) the annual number of kilometres covered by the various transport modes; and (2) the traveller kilometres, per transport mode. The Dutch Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) publishes consistent series commencing in the year 1978. Older data do not link or are lacking. This report has constructed series starting from 1950. The series are based on all the available data, and link up with the recent CBS series. This approach attempts to offer the best series of exposure data currently available for the motorised transport modes. However, these series deviate somewhat from those previously employed by the SWOV Institute for Road Safety Research. (A)
