FORMATION OF THE EQUILIBRIUM THICKNESS OF ARCTIC ICE

The paper analyzes the problem on the basis of a model similar to that of G.A. Maykut and N. Untersteiner. The magnitude of ice melting was computed by a formula in which the penetration of radiation into the ice and the heat consumed in warming it were not taken into account. In simulating the formation of the equilibrium ice thickness as a function of climatic parameters, it was initially assumed that the ice in the Arctic Ocean is motionless. Among the factors into account are heat flux, ice salinity, ocean heat, snow cover and ice drift.
