HUMAN FACTORS AND PRODUCTIVITY: AN APPROACH
Work must be more human if industrial countries hope to improve productivity, performance, job satisfaction and at the same time reduce occupational hazards. This paper describes very briefly a system approach concentrating on three components to design new jobs or re-engineer old ones. These three system components are: (1) the individual in the system, (2) the task itself, and (3) the environment in which the work is performed. Better match between the individual characteristics and job demands under the stress of the environment can result in an optimum work system.
