SYSTEM FOR BRIDGE MANAGEMENT IN A RURAL ENVIRONMENT

The authors present a system for city- or county-level bridge management. While the research was conducted in Wyoming, system development, procedures, and software design are applicable to other states with similar demographics and bridge inventories. Bridge management systems (BMS) are reviewed as appropriate, and characteristics of each, including advantages and disadvantages, are discussed. Several of the favorable characteristics of each system are modified and incorporated into the present system, known as WYO-BMS. This paper provides general background information on the development of the WYO-BMS. Implementation details are not included here, but are available in the final report.
