TTC STUDIES RADIO-BASED TRAIN CONTROL FOR NEW SUBWAY LINE

The Toronto Transit Commission has undertaken a Signaling Technology Study to provide recommendations as to the most appropriate signaling technology and design criteria for their new subway line. The study included the following four tasks: reviewing the existing TTC subway signaling practices in order to establish the baseline that must be considered when evaluating alternative systems; assessing the TTC's operating requirements with respect to the new subway lines; reviewing current and evolving signaling system technologies and to evaluate these technologies with respect to the TTC operating requirements; and, developing specific implementation recommendations.
