Decisions about the funding of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) are being made by local, state, and federal government agencies and by the private sector. In response, many metropolitan regions have begun early deployment planning and field testing of ITS products and services. Advanced Traveler Information Systems (ATIS) are consistently identified as among the most promising near-term ITS deployments, holding great potential for TDM strategies. This article looks at some of the many unanswered questions about public/consumer acceptance issues and ATIS.
