A TALE OF FOUR CITIES: A SPECIAL MT REPORT

One of the most important questions for a transportation agency is, "How does the ridership perceive our service, and why?" For those systems that are losing ridership, the need to answer this question is obvious. Knowing what is broken is the first step toward getting it fixed. For those whose ridership is increasing, the answer is less obvious but just as important. What follows in this article is how 4 major transportation agencies across the globe are determining how their riders feel about their services. They detail their methods, their discoveries, the programs put into place to remedy the problems uncovered, and what the results of those programs were. The 4 cities are Paris, Florence, New York, and London.
