ROCK ANCHORS-STATE OF THE ART. PART 3: STRESSING AND TESTING

This review describes anchor stressing techniques, the monitoring and presentation of data, presents guidance in the interpretation of stressing results, and details 4 basic types of test and quality control: namely, precontract component testing; acceptance testing of production anchors; long term monitoring of selected production anchors, special test anchors; and monitoring of the overall anchor/rock/structure system. Two basic methods of applying stress to an anchor tendon (by torque and direct pull) are described as well as the practical aspects relating to anchor stressing in the field. Comments are made on the choice of the stressing system. Monitoring procedures are discussed and comments are made on basic parameters such as load, extension and temperature. Comments are also made on the movement of the permanent load bearing plate, fixed anchor movement, and strand wedge pull-in. A list of items is recommended for inclusion in a full stressing record; data describing rock anchor, jacking equipment and personnel load/stroke movement should be recorded. Data interpretation is discussed and precontract component testing is detailed.
