PERFORMANCE AND DURABILITY OF BITUMINOUS MATERIALS. 12: MEASURING THE POTENTIAL COMPACTION PERFORMANCE OF BITUMINOUS MIXTURES
The authors consider the potential compaction performance of bituminous mixtures with particular reference to the use of newer materials including bitumen modifiers and cold-lay materials. Investigations carried out over the last 30 years into the compaction performance of bituminous pavement mixtures are outlined. A method developed at Heriot-Watt University based on the Duriez compaction procedure is then described. Data using hot-mix material and cold-lay mix material are compared. Cold-lay mix materials show a different sensitivity to key performance characteristics and need a greater time for the binder to displace. For the covering abstract see IRRD 875331.
