MOTOR FUELS FROM SOURCE TO END USE

DRIVMEDEL FRAAN KAELLA TILL ANVAENDARE

Energy and emissions analyses for motor fuels comprise not only the exhaust gases and the fuel consumption when utilizing the vehicles, but also the energy turnover and the emissions during the whole fuel chain from primary energy to the motor fuel in the tank of the vehicle. Some analysts claim that secondary energy and emissions, such as from the erection of production plants and other infrastructure as well as from the production of the vehicles, should also be included. This paper describes and discusses the methods of analysis, including the boundaries of the systems studied and the transactions at these boundaries utilized in a study made by Ecotraffic in 1991-92. The results from this study are described and the conclusions drawn in it are discussed. Possible near future measures are indicated on the grounds of some basic environmental and energy supply criteria. (A) For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 876615.
