OPTIMAL ALLOCATION OF TWO FIXED SERVICE UNITS ACTING AS M/G/1 QUEUES

In this paper the authors study the optimal allocation of customers, placed in stated locations, to two existing facilities. The two facilities may either behave as "central servers," where customers converge to get the service, or as "central dispatchers," for which the service consists in selecting, extracting and sending an urgently needed good to the requiring customer. The two facilities act as M/G/1 queues, where the arrival rate depends on the allocated customers, and the service time distribution is fixed. This last hypothesis simplifies our objective function with respect to Berman and Larson (1985), where the service time distribution depends also on the allocated customers.
