USING TECHNOLOGY TO BOOST TRAFFIC ENGINEERS' PRODUCTIVITY
In the I-880 Corridor of Alameda County, traffic engineers, transportation and transit planners at the state, regional and local levels are collaborating to provide state-of-the-art management of freeways, surface arterials and transit systems (deployment of ITS strategies). This report concerns the efforts of the City of San Leandro to develop a traffic signal system in which most of the optimized signal timing plans are developed and maintained by enhanced signal systems and new computer programs rather than the typical reliance on extensive data collection and analysis by traffic engineers.
