SOLVING PARKING PROBLEMS IN PARK CITY, UTAH; LOOKING AHEAD TO THE 2002 WINTER OLYMPICS
Park City, Utah, one of the most appealing areas in the western U.S., experiences seasonal demand for parking and traffic handling. This has greatly affected the character and "old historic town" feel of the Main Street area. The need for transportation and parking solutions is underscored by the selection of Salt Lake City for the 2002 Winter Olympics. Park City, located east of Salt Lake City, will host several Olympic events. To address upcoming transportation/congestion problems, the City initiated a transportation and parking analysis of the historic Main Street area in August 1995. This paper presents some of the findings to date and details concepts for mitigating parking and transportation problems.
