AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL: LESSONS LEARNED FOR SURFACE TRANSPORTATION

Modernization of air travel got a jump start in the mid 1950s, following a tragic accident in the skies over Arizona. Four decades later some of the same technologies are being deployed to improve surface transportation. The authors describe the striking similarities between the two disciplines and suggest that the national airspace system has a lot to offer in terms of strategies and lessons learned.
