DESIGN CHARTS FOR REINFORCED CONCRETE CIRCULAR COLUMNS IN ACCORDANCE WITH EUROCODE 2

This paper presents design charts for reinforced concrete circular columns subjected to axial compressive or tensile force combined with bending moment in accordance with Eurocode 2 (EC2). A numerical analysis is used for the calculation of the forces and moments in the materials forming the section. The concrete compression zone is subdivided into a number of thin strip elements. The reinforcement steel is replaced by an imaginary steel ring which, in turn, is subdivided into a large number of elements. A computer program has been developed to perform this numerical analysis and to plot the design charts for any combination of the design parameters. A typical example is solved to show the use of the charts and to demonstrate the validity and correctness of the design charts developed through checking the example analytically and by comparison with existing solutions by others.
