EFFECTS OF VARIATIONS IN A BUS NETWORK ON THE COST AND BENEFITS

EFFECTEN VAN VARIATIES IN EEN BUSNETWERK OP DE KOSTEN EN DE OPBRENGSTEN

The central government wants to improve public transport, in particular by decreasing mobility by car. At the same time, the central government wants to repel the defects of public transport. The transport companies have to improve the efficiency without losing passengers. Therefore, a study has been made of some characteristics of a bus network on the number of passengers, the costs and the benefits. The bus is judged on the average journey time, which is compared with the journey time by car, by bicycle or by walking. This study has been done to the layout of the bus network, the itinerary of the line, the coupling of bus lines, the distance between the bus stops and the frequency. An important aspect is the demand of capacity, in particular for the number of busses used and the frequency.
