GERMAN DEVELOPMENTS IN POROUS CONCRETE

DUITSE ONTWIKKELINGEN IN GELUIDARM BETON

This article reports on a visit paid to two projects regarding porous concrete pavements in Germany in June 1995. The first project is concerned with a porous concrete test section on the Bundesautobahn A5 (BAB-A5) from Basel to Frankfurt. The pavement structure and the composition of the porous concrete mix are discussed. The second project is concerned with porous concrete service roads, for emergency services vehicles, at the Hockenheimring race track. These roads were constructed in a demonstration project. The construction activities and the mix composition are discussed. The advantages and the disadvantages of the construction method applied are listed. Next, the noise measurements that were carried out on the BAB-A5 for cars and trucks are discussed. For cars a noise reduction of 3.5 dB(A) was realized at a speed of 120 km/h. For trucks a noise reduction of 4.8 dB(A) was realized at a speed of 80 km/h. A frequency analysis is presented for both types of vehicles in the form of diagrams.
