APPLICATIONS OF IMAGE PROCESSING TECHNIQUES IN INTELLIGENT TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS
In recent years, the technology of image processing has been applied frequently in intelligent transportation systems (ITS) for vehicle detection, vehicle classification, traffic flow estimation, incident detection, toll operations, road and view condition analysis, visual navigation, collision avoidance, and more. This survey paper attempts to determine in what sense techniques of image processing are used in ITS. First, the requirement of the ITS for image processing is investigated. Then, the basic techniques of image processing used in ITS are recalled. Examples of application systems that used the techniques of image processing for detection, estimation, and other analysis are provided.
