ADVANCED SYSTEM TO GIVE ATLANTA TRAFFIC CONTROL A BOOST DURING AND AFTER OLYMPICS

An advanced traffic management system (ATMS) and advanced traveler information system (ATIS) is all that stands between Atlanta and traffic chaos during the 1996 Summer Olympics. Transportation officials, though, are betting that these systems will manage the stream of bus and automobile traffic, enabling vehicles to move at a steady pace. This article describes the design and integration of the ATMS and ATIS.
