VISION PLANNING: TRANSPORTATION, LAND USE, AND THE ENVIRONMENT IN THE 21ST CENTURY

The Washington region, like other major metropolitan areas in the United States, is working to integrate transportation, land development, and environmental policies and plans. The Council of Government's growth and travel forecasts tell us there's more reason than ever to be concerned about these interrelationships. Environmental and growth issues have moved front-and-center on the regional agenda in 1995 as the Transportation Planning Board has begun work on its vision plan, which will determine what future transportation system Washington residents want, and how they will pay for it. In October 1994, just one month after the long-range plan was approved, the TPB sponsored a conference to kick off the two-year vision planning process.
