DRIVER INFORMATION SYSTEMS
This paper considers the context within which information systems can contribute to urban transport strategy and outlines potential benefits. Key issues that will need to be addressed are discussed. Transport information requirements and the range of Driver Information Systems currently available are first considered. Methods of relieving congestion by increasing road capacity or reducing traffic demand are discussed. DIS schemes already implemented in Europe and the United States are assessed and issues which they have raised are highlighted. For the covering abstract see IRRD 874870.
