THE CONTRIBUTION OF TRANSPORT TO THE QUALITY OF LIFE

In considering the contribution of transport to the quality of life in European cities, the author examines issues raised by a) managing the demand for movement, b) making the most effective use of the existing infrastructure, c) minimising the impact of transport, d) quality and equality and e) setting targets and achieving results. The discussion includes examples of how individual cities have tackled specific issues. Comparisons are made with the situation in the UK and some recommendations made.
