TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT IN EUROPE

VAEGTRAFIKLEDNING I EUROPA

This report deals with traffic management and traffic information with a focus on incidents. Organisation and technique for motorways, trunk roads as well as city traffic are treated. Most of the information have been collected during study visits to Birmingham, Dusseldorf and Lyon. Traffic incident management abroad is more developed compared to Sweden. The Road Administration has the main responsibility in some countries while it in other countries mainly is a question for the police. Traffic information is collected and distributed in different ways in different countries, but in a more organised way than in Sweden. The fast development of road transport informatics open new possibilities for traffic management and traffic information. In all countries being studied there are big development projects in order to use new techniques, but matters dealing with organisation must not be forgotten. (A)
