A MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR RICHMOND BRIDGE, TASMANIA

To assist with the management of historic bridges in Tasmania, the state's Department of Transport and Works has commenced work on the preparation of a series of management plans. The plans incorporate historical data, statements of significance, fabric and terrestrial surveys, and structural and hydraulic analysis, and provide recommendations for future maintenance and strategic planning issues in accordance with the Burra Charter. Public comment is being sought to ensure that the plans recognise the important role that the bridges play in local communities. This paper describes the preparation of the management plan for Richmond Bridge (Australia's oldest bridge). The document will provide a sound basis for the management of the bridge. (a)
