EFFECTIVE SURVEYS FOR AIRPORT ACCESS PLANNING

Airport access studies increasingly feature computer simulations. Modeling begins with calibration to an existing conditions "Base Case." The models are then used to predict future traffic conditions. Depending on the requirements, the future volumes may be applied against the existing network and several alternative roadway improvements. It is an unfortunate fact that much of the data collected for modeling purposes purposes is unsuitable. The reasons are nearly limitless, and new ones are found with each effort. This paper attempts to resolve this problem by highlighting information that is important, and how to get it.
