USING THE APTS MAP DATABASE USER REQUIREMENTS SPECIFICATION FOR TRANSIT MAP DATABASE DESIGN

The APTS Map and Spatial Database Working Group (MSDWG) undertook the task of defining common data definitions, data types and relationships specifically for transit activity areas to enable APTS user service interoperability. The results of this effort is published as the APTS Map Database User Requirements Document (MDURD). By using the standard data set contained in this document as part of their data model and database design, a transit agency can overcome the pitfalls of building islands of technologies, and build instead a seamless information infrastructure. This paper discusses how the MDURD can be used in designing a spatial database to build a database architecture which manages heterogeneous data sources.
