GENESIS - PROJECT DESIGN AND PILOT TEST
The Genesis initiative of the Minnesota Guidestar program is advancing toward the goal of providing travelers with real-time travel information using Personal Communication Devices (PCD's). The Genesis initiative has completed concept definition, preliminary and detailed system design, and plans for a demonstration and pilot test of PCD's. PCD's under design are personal digital assistants (PDA's), notebook computers and alpha-numeric pagers. Real-time travel data is collected and processed by data collection and fixed end servers and distributed to mobile PCD's over RF networks. A pilot test is planned for the Spring of 1995 in the western and southern regions of the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area.
