HOW TO DESIGN SIGNAL SYSTEMS ESPECIALLY FOR SMALLER CITIES

Signal system design needs are different in small cities. In North and South Carolina, the author and his company recently designed five systems ranging in size from 12 to 161 signalized intersections. Basically, there are three issues to consider when designing the systems -- choice of communications media, reuse of existing components, and maintenance staffing.
