THE DISTRIBUTION OF STRESS NEAR THE TIP OF A CRACK WHICH ORIGINATES AT THE EDGE OF A CIRCULAR HOLE

The author makes use of a recent development in the theory of Mellin transforms to show that the stress intensity factor and the crack energy of a crack, which originates at the edge of a circular hole in an infinite elastic solid, are related in a simple fashion to the solution of a Fredholm integral equation of the second kind.
