IVHS FOUNDATION FOR FUTURE TRANSPORTATION NETWORKS

The San Antonio Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS)/Intelligent Vehicle Highway system (IVHS) is designed to provide transportation and enforcement officials the opportunity, within two minutes, to react to accidents and incidents on our freeways. At the Operations control Center, enforcement officials will determine and immediately dispatch emergency medical services and required accident scene clearing services while transportation officials begin a pro-active traffic management approach to treat the local scene congestion and advise upstream traffic of adjusted or alternate routes. The system is designed such that those activities will begin in no more than two minutes from the time of the accident.
