A STUDY ON TRAFFIC SIGNAL CONTROL BASED ON OD INFORMATION

This paper reports the results of a study on traffic signal control. The cause of congestion at the studied intersection was interference between two origin-destination (OD) trip matrix flows. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of adding OD information, which is a factor in traffic signal control. A traffic flow simulator was employed to evaluate the intersection models. It was determined that interference between the two flows could be decreased efficiently by taking OD information into consideration when establishing traffic signal timing, and thereby, eliminating traffic congestion completely.
