MODIFIED OEDOMETER FOR ARID, SALINE SOILS. DISCUSSION AND CLOSURE
A discussion of a technical note with the aforementioned title by Al-Amoudi and Abduljauwad, published in this journal (Volume 120, Number 10, October 1994), is presented. The discussion focuses on testing soils, specifically sabkha, containing soluble minerals. Discusser Day questions whether the authors' based the void ratio on the remaining weight of solids after water percolation was complete, as the collapse of the soil versus the settlement due to dissolution should be differentiated. Discussion is followed by closure from the authors.
