DEVELOPMENT OF ON-BOARD NETWORK SYSTEM

In this paper we estimate the availability of a general purpose LAN (Local Area Network) as an on-board network from the aspects of the transmission medium characteristics and the transmission delay. An optical coupler which connects eight optical fibers between two cars, and a transmission system which transmits equipment controlling signals have been tentatively made and tested. The anti-electromagnetic noise characteristics of the coaxial cable and the twisted pair cable have been measured and the transmission delay time has also been measured and simulated. From the results of these experiments, the construction of the on-board network by using the general purpose LAN is promising.
