THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT'S IMPACT UPON PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
In order to eliminate discrimination against individuals with disabilities, the U.S. Congress passed the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) into law in July 1990. The ADA is divided into five titles. Title I, the focus of this article, prohibits discrimination in employment. In this report, the author will concentrate on the provisions of the ADA related to employment, with an emphasis on the impact on public transit employers. In addition to an overview of Title I, this report will discuss implementation issues that have been faced by public transit employers since Title I went into effect.
