THE BICYCLE TOWN PROJECT; BICYCLE SURVEYS IN SANDNES AND TOENSBERG/NOETTEROEY IN 1992

SYKKELBYPROSJEKTET; INTEVJUUNDERSOEKELSER I SYKKELBYENE SANDNES OG TOENSBERG/NOETTEROEY I 1992

Interview surveys were carried out in the bicycle towns of Sandnes and Toensberg/Noetteroey, mainly in spring and autumn 1992, to get a picture of bicycle use and cycling habits. Bicycle ownership and use are high in Toensberg/Noetteroey compared to other cities in Norway. 33 per cent of the population i Toensberg/Noetteroey cycles daily, against only 20 per cent in Sandnes. Bicycles are used for journey to work and on shopping trips. Most of the children used safety equipment but not many adults did. A high proportion of journeys took place on cycle roads in both cities. The accident risk on these roads seems to be higher in Sandnes than in Toensberg/Noetteroey.(A)
