THE URBAN TRAFFIC PLAN IN BOLOGNA

IL PIANO URBANO DEL TRAFFICO DI BOLOGNA

THE BOLOGNESE PLAN IS CURRENTLY BEING APPROVED AND IS EXCEPTIONAL FOR THE VAST NUMBER OF ARGUMENTS IT FACES AS WELL AS THE OBJECTIVES IT SETS. THE NEW URBAN TRAFFIC PLAN IN BOLOGNA REPRESENTS THE METHODOLOGICAL FRAMEWORK IN WHICH TO INSERT A COHERENT INTERVENTION SCHEME FOR GOVERNING MOBILITY. IT AIMS AT REDUCING THE USE OF PRIVATE VEHICLES - IN FAVOUR OF PUBLIC TRANSPORT AND TWO-WHEEL VEHICLES - AND INSERTS TWO MOBILITY ORGANISING PROJECTS INTO THE CREATIVE STRATEGIC DESIGN: THE TRAMWAY NETWORK AND THE METROPOLITAN RAILWAY SERVICE (SFM). UP UNTIL TODAY, THE CORNERSTONES OF THE MOBILITY GOVERNING POLICY HAVE BEEN THE PROTECTIVE INTERVENTIONS ON RESERVED LANES FOR PUBLIC TRANSPORT; THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE CYCLE PATH; PEDESTRIANISING, THE "SIRIO" ACCESS CONTROL SYSTEM; THE PARKING REGULATION PROJECT IN THE SUBURBS; THE LAUNCH OF CONTROL SYSTEMS ON CIRCULATION AND PARKING CONDITIONS IN THE CITY, BASED ON THE CENTRALISED TRAFFIC LIGHTS SYSTEM, THE INSTALLATION OF PANELS WITH CHANGEABLE ANNOUNCEMENTS, AND THE REMOTE CONTROL OF PUBLIC VEHICLES.
